not knowing if they will make it home afterwork. the fbi reviewed data from about three quarters of police agencies nation-wide. and here's what they found. from 2000 to 2010, more than 20,000 police officers nation-wide have been injured in gun-related incidents. that's roughly 9.5% of the country's police force. officers confronted with a gun while making a stop or during a pursuit. in california, the times reports that since the year 2000, four chp officers have died of gunshot wounds, and five others injured in gun-related violence. the latest incident was in may of this year in bakersfield. i got an e-mail a few hours ago from joseph mcnamara at the hoover institution. he said this particular incident on 680 is rare and troubling because it happened so early in the morning. where presumably no drugs or alcohol were involved. that is yet to be determined by the coroner. i'm damian trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> thanks, damien. >>> news conferences in vallejo today where the family of a man shot and killed by police publicly challenged the police department's account of what happened.
